A selection of George Plemper’s b/w photographs from the 1970s were in today’s Guardian.
They make a fascinating collection, snapshots of schoolkids frozen in the time and place of the late 1970s, who are wearing the clothes and hairstyles of that period. I always find b/w so much more powerful than colour.
There is something soulful yet sad and Plemper captures a multitude of expressions from sadness, happiness to boredom. And what is poignant is the calm before the storm of Thatcherism.
Check out Plemper’s flickr account which includes more portraits (past and present) including urban and industrial landscapes.
