Well, the blue sky right-wing thinkers have been brought together to bring “fresh ideas” to Tory policies. And of course a think tank is involved…step foward Policy Exchange founded by Nick Boles, interim chief of staff at City Hall.
Policy Exchange is an independent think tank whose mission is to develop and promote new policy ideas which will foster a free society based on strong communities, personal freedom, limited government, national self-confidence and an enterprise culture.
Policies include: Boris Johnson to take direct control of the cops away from the Home Office. So it will be about the political expediency of the Tory mayor of London and whatever takes his political whim!
Also, the New Deal programme will be scrapped in favour of Workfare (possibly “boot camps” for the unemployed?). The difference between the Tories and NL is that NL have taken a gradualist approach to welfare reform but once the Tories get elected they will be turbo-charging their attacks on the poor and that includes bringing in Workfare.
And another policy from the array of ideas from the blue sky thinking right-wingers is to cut back public sector pensions. So in other words this will be a “smash and grab” raid of public sector pensions. It will enable them to impose tax cuts for the rich.
These policies are not “fresh” or “new”, this is right-wing populism.
