Forcible deportation of Iraqi asylum seekers

June 13, 2008

Iraqi asylum seekers are being arrested and are being held in detention centres across the UK in readiness to be forcibly deported on a charter flight. One of the asylum seekers partner is eight months pregnant, another is their second time at being deported. Asylum seekers have been given notices stating:

You are to be removed to the KRG no sooner than 72 Hours from the date of this notice and no longer than 20 days from the date of this notice.

The  Campaign to Stop Deportations to Iraq (CSDIraq) are saying:

We ask all human, labour and refugee rights and anti-war organisations to support the International Federation of Iraqi Refugees and the Coalition to Stop Deportations to by writing protest letters to the Home office, Royal Jordanian Airline and the Kurdish Regional Government making the following demands:

Please call on the UK Home Office to:

1. Abolish the policy of deporting asylum seekers; allow all Kurdish asylum seekers to have legal representatives to defend their rights.

2. Stop the inhuman policy of making Kurdish Iraqi asylum seekers destitute.

3. Release all Iraqis currently held in detention centers.

Please show your solidarity and support in stopping this obscene abuse of human rights. The Iraqi refugees threatened with deportation need you to contact the Home Office, Royal Jordanian and the Kurdish Government as the CSDI website asks.
