BBC: a reply to my complaint

The BBC replied to my email complaint regarding the Gaza appeal. A nondescript crap standard response from the top brass at the BBC that exposes cowardice along with no backbone or integrity. Shame on the BBC!

Btw: I didn’t see the email response as it ended up in my spam box. Says it all….!!

Thank you for your e-mail.

We note your disappointment at our decision not to broadcast an appeal by the Disasters Emergency Committee to raise funds for Gaza.

We decided not to broadcast the DEC’s public appeal because we wished to avoid any risk of compromising public confidence in the BBC’s impartiality in the context of covering a continuing news story where issues of responsibility for civilian suffering and distress are intrinsic to the story and remain highly contentious. We also could not be confident that the aid resulting from audience donations could reach those it was intended for at a time of a fragile ceasefire and sporadic border access. We will of course continue to report the humanitarian story in Gaza.

The BBC’s director-general Mark Thompson has therefore explained the decision in more detail in a number of television and radio broadcasts and online at our Editors’ blog. Please follow the link to read his explanation in full:

Please be assured that we have registered your comments on our audience log.  This is the internal report of audience feedback which we compile daily for all programme makers and commissioning executives within the BBC, and also their senior management.  It ensures that your points, and all other comments we receive, are circulated and considered across the BBC.

Once again, thank you for taking the time to contact us.

Regards

Stock email. I had the exact same one.

  2. WorldbyStorm says:

Fair dues though for sending a complaint in the first place. I’d say they’re beginning to sweat now.

  3. harpymarx says:

Yes, all stock answers but it keeps the sods on their toes. And thanks WbS….

Funny if your disabled your a cheat some impartiality, I was asked this week by the BBC to write to them or phone them on my views on looking for work while being disabled. They said this would look at disability from a disabled point of view, and I replied what the same way you looked at my last interview, because they felt I was so disabled it was not good to put my point of view, the other people they interviewed they ripped to bits. They showed people living in areas of the country in which they looked like they needed a wash the houses needed a clean and the people were obviously uneducated. They cut my interview out saying it was obvious I was disabled, which is funny really because they were looking for disabled people, or were they.

I got the same response from the BBC. I complained to the BBC Trust that the BBC stock response did not properly address my concerns.

Incidentally, the way in which Socialist Unity (aka Andy Newman) deals with complaints appears to be rather similar.

  6. harpymarx says:

Jodley: I don’t know re the complaint re SU, what email did you use? I can pass it on if it helps?

  7. Jodley says:

Firstly to office@socialistunity.com and then follow up to andyd1961@yahoo.co.uk

But as yet, no retraction of the comment that I am “a despicable person.” The blog is also still carrying a film on the holocaust, rather unfortunately captioned at the end by an islamophobic nutjob – with more of the same on this particular guy’s youtube channel (This is the type of thing that Kaufman was complaining about regarding the egregious use of the holocaust…) Anyhow, Mr Newman presumably does not wish to enter into a dialogue on the question since he does not have time to respond to emails (too busy getting content without checking sources perhaps….)

I’ll happily forward the complaint, but I don’t see a contact email here….

  8. harpymarx says:

    Jodley, send it to mayasevenofnine@btinternet.com

Sorry meant to leave email address below.

They have cameras all over the place. ,
