G20 death: cop suspended

G20Protest

So Scotland Yard has suspended the cop who attacked Ian Tomlinson.

The officer in the video, who was wearing riot gear and whose face was covered by a balaclava, identified himself to his manager and the IPCC yesterday as fresh pictures suggested he had removed his shoulder number and covered his face with a balaclava before hitting Tomlinson with a baton and then pushing him to the ground on Cornhill, in the City of London, last Wednesday.

And the IPCC has dragged its collective feet over this. You wonder if they woulda just filed this death away as ‘natural causes’ if that video footage hadn’t come to light? Methinks so. Even though witnesses had alleged that Ian Tomlinson had been attacked.

But according to Nick Hardwick from the IPCC on Channel4 News tonight who maintains that there will be a ‘rigorous and impartial investigation’ along with them being ‘open minded and independent’….

  1. “removed his shoulder number and covered his face with a balaclava before hitting Tomlinson”
Shows calculation, so manslaughter at best, murder also likely… if this was a civvy. But he’s police and the IPCC are muppets. So…

  3. “So…”

Methinks a very BIG migraine for the IPCC, in other words, ‘how can we cover this one up..chaps’?

Many of the cops last wk had their number covered up and some were wearing balaclavas. But this isn’t unusual as during the anti-Bush demo this was the same.

  4. Not manslaughter, but murder, because it was premeditated assault, unless concept has morphed under the unwritten Constitution of Merry old Blair, I mean England.

If only he had taken the gold package:

  5. Hey have you noticed the BBC are actually reporting the news THE SAME DAY…?
It took them three days to acknowledge a man had died at the G20 demo, and four to first report of contrasting versions.
Now they seem to have caught up. Top notch public service that is…

  6. The PC who owned up,apparently, had a heart attack himself after he saw it was on video Wednesday, and owned up,stuffed,on Thursday. The IPCC hadn’t been able to interview him, wait for it,because he was kept in hospital in Sussex somewhere, overnight. It wasn’t a heart attack it was probably shock to think of his early retirement, pension and £700 plus job all going down the swannee.Of course,it may have been a ploy, devious as the police are,to enable all his mates and him to sing from the same hymn sheet as in JCd’M case.Bet their phones were red hot,to say nothing of their faces.Every passge he tried to get home they beat him mercilessly. The IPCC will be just as uninterested as the police that stood by and did nothing to help him as he remonstrated to GET HOME!MANSLAUGHTER at the least and the other Officers CRIMINAL NEGLECT.And thats just at EC3V 3LP where it happened, never mind the rest that got beaten for being peaceful and penned up.I am disgusted they deserve to burn in hell.

  7. Yeah Peter, the right-wing press presented it as a heart attack. As you say, more likely panic attack…more likely the cause was to do with being caught on camera!! And indeed cops compare notes and sing from the same hymn sheet.
