Carnival of Socialism

Happy secular Easter…

Unfortunately the Easter bunny didn’t leave me an easter egg (darn that bunny….if I don’t get an egg the bunny gets it!) and the supermarket shelves are empty. So HarpyMarx compiled this sans chocolate.

Welcome to the Carnival of Socialism.

The past two weeks has seen occupations and G20 protests.

Tom Robinson once sang, British Police are the best in the world/I don’t believe none of these stories I’ve heard

And last week, the cops continued the traditon by battering, attacking our right to protest, kettling us, while smashing up the peaceful Climate Camp, which all culminated in the death of by-stander, Ian Tomlinson.

Oh, lets not forget the smears and lies and misinformation spouted by the media about the protesters.

Bloggers rightly angry that vicious bastard cops indulging in violence, along with eye witness accounts, the sense of deja vu regarding the death, ensuing video footage which graphically shows an unprovoked attack by the cops and the IPCC, who really should be renamed the IPCU (Independent Police Cover-Up) . And there’s a small thing called accountability….

Phil @ AVPS gave us the low-down on what the global ruling class came up with at the G20. But the media who weren’t too interested about police brutality or a death …..the important question on the media mind was who was winning in the G20 ’sizzling’ wives fashion stakes. Phew! Whatta loada scorchers…

Onto the Visteon occupation, in Belfast, Enfield (more pix here) and Basildon the occupation may have ended but the fight goes on. The Visteon occupations also highlighted the need for ‘green products’. Cat reports on the school occupations in Glasgow. Does this mean a return to militancy?

And let us not ignore the barbarism, comparisons of Israel and Gaza come to mind, committed by the Sri Lankan government against the Tamils. Thousands of Tamils marched yesterday through the streets of central London.

Other posts that caught my eye include Madam Miaow pointing out the invisibility of racism and misogyny in the reviews of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.

Benjamin Solah has some interesting thoughts on the talk given by Antony Loewenstein.

Oh, and Mark here ponders the direction of the LP, along with reflecting on his own politics.

And sad that Susan lost the vote to become the PPC of Calder Valley. Brave woman to have a fought so hard against the NL machine!

Splintered Sunrise on Anna Richardson (check out the comments as well).

And come back soon Belledame…….I’ll miss ya for one..!!

And AVPS comes brutally to the point when describing the latest Dr Who as crap…..!

That’s all folks…

The next Carnival will be at The View from Steeltown on the 26th April…

Adios comrades!
