Mark France sacked

Sorry to hear about Mark France, who I have known since the 1980s during my B’ham anti-apartheid days, being sacked by the DWP.

Mark France was sacked by managers at the Jobcentre in Bromsgrove, for gross misconduct. The Department for Work and Pensions said he had broken its code of conduct by engaging in political activities.

Comrade, I hope you do appeal against this gross decision and that the union is supporting you. Solidarity to you.

I have a lot of respect for Mark: someone who strongly supports something he believes in and doesn’t stop some pathetic code of conduct from stopping that when the consequences are his job (especially in this climate).

I hope he appeals and succeeds.
