I wish this was a spoof but it’s real. And believe me, you can’t make this up…
The United States has blocked demands at the UN security council for an international inquiry into Israel’s assault on the Turkish ship carrying aid to Gaza that left nine pro-Palestinian activists dead. A compromise statement instead calls for an impartial investigation which Washington indicated could be carried out by Israel.
Yes, dear readers, you have read correctly…. ’impartial investigation carried out by Israel’… And I certainly can predict the outcome, ‘not guilty of piracy, terrorism,and murder … what was done was perfectly legal, m’lud…’ Seriously, you have to laugh or else you… well, you know what I mean. How the hell can an impartial investigation be carried out by the perpetrators of a crime?
Neither impartial nor independent. The States blocked, “a prompt, impartial, credible and transparent investigation conforming to international standards”….
So Israel gets away with murder….again
That’ll be that ‘change we can believe in’ again…
Most definitely…
It makes me proud to be American. /sarcasm
The murders took place on a ship under a turkish flag in international waters. I’m pretty sure under international maritime law that Turkey has to investigate any deaths on board as it’s deemed turkish soil.
@mcg
Interesting point and not one I had heard of, but I looked it up and you’re absolutelly right – a Turkish-flagged ship in international waters is as Turkish as downtown Istanbul. It also doesn’t seem that the government in Ankara will need much persuading to begin a murder investigation.
I think you have seriously misjudged this.
The big story is not that the USA allowed Israel some wiggle room, but that the USA did not veto a Security Council resolution which condemned the Israeli action.
In the coded atmosphere of diplomacy that was a big snub for Israel from the Whitehouse; especially as the actual implementation of an international inquiry would never happen anyway.
If you read the Turkish press, Hurriyet, etc, you will see they are not particularly critical of the USA over this.
Yes Andy, I’m sure the US action will force the Israelis to think twice next time. NOT.

Well the whole situation is drenched in corruption. USA is deep with top-secret plans etc. Anyway…
The world needs to stop putting up with the nonsense from America… the World could easily stick the USA to its knees. Perhaps we should sanction the US… see how long they would last. It would put an end to their economic recovery plans.
As being British… it makes me feel good that the US are having to deal with an invasion on their coastline, from bp… (although I doubt its in much British ownership anyway) sadly though the environmental disaster from the oil is far far far from a good thing. Pros and Cons I guess.
